When Curt Stevenson (son of Makaha and PowerEdge founder Larry Stevenson) asked me to contribute one of my favorite sk8 photos for a media project he is working on; this shot of Monty Nolder, doing a backside boneless in Del Mar’s keyhole pool, immediately came to mind.? Monty was one of the only deaf skaters to make into the pro ranks, and was an inspiration for me and many others.? The angle of his feet, his shoe laces, the look on face in this photo all stoke me out.
Monty was, and is, one of the greats in this outlaw sport that has only recently become mainstream. As we progress into the future…let’s not forget where we came from.
